Why a Crappy Monday was Awesome

On Monday this week, my day didn’t really get off to a great start.

I woke up a little after 4 am to catch an early morning flight out of Atlanta to Pittsburgh. Security went well and I arrived in plenty of time for once to make my flight. However, things got hairy from there.

As our plane pulled out and started to go to the runway, we just stopped. Didn’t go anywhere without any confirmation from the pilot. Our pilot got on the speaker saying we had a small maintenance issue. After taxiing back to the gate and sitting in the plane without much detail in what was coming next, we de-planed and were told to hold tight.

Holding tight turned into another hour. Not knowing what was going to come next and that I couldn’t get another flight out in the time fram that I needed, I re-scheduled my entire trip and all the coinciding meetings for later on in the week.

So after waking up at the crack of dawn to catch a flight and start working early, I couldn’t even begin to work on anything until I got back to my apartment….around noon.

Walking into my apartment, I cracked open my laptop to hit the ground running to make up for lost ground…only to find that my internet was down. So that took another 30-45 minutes to fix and diagnose that problem.

With my afternoon staying put in Atlanta, I had the opportunity to meet up with one of our tech vendors downtown. On my way to the meeting, I was pulled over for having my license plate sticker, though I never received my renewal in the mail.

Early morning for nothing, broken technology and getting a ticket. Did I mention the damage my car got over the weekend from a massive hail storm? Yeah, my week was looking just peachy.

So why is it awesome?

No, I’m not being sarcastic.

Sure, my flight was cancelled. However, it’s because I had an attentive pilot that was looking out for everyone’s safety and fortunately identified a problem in the nick of time.

As a result, I had to go home to broken internet. However, I got an extra night at home with my wife and our dog Theo that I didn’t expect to have with them.

My traffic ticket? I learned that the renewal process in Georgia is different than in Illinois for the future and…the best part…I didn’t have to pay a fine.

And the hail storm that preceded all of it? I had the honor of being part of my cousin’s wedding to one of his best friends. A wedding that was fun and didn’t stop despite severe weather.

In a nutshell:

1. I didn’t die in a plane crash
2. Got an extra night with my family
3. Avoided a huge fine
4. Got to be part of adding more people to our family via a wedding

So yeah…I’d say my week is off to a pretty good start. How about yours?
